About the trustee board.

At the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District Branch we are always happy to hear from people who would like to volunteer to be a trustee of the branch.  The charity is an autonomously registered charity and its operation is overseen by the independent board of trustees who are responsible for the governance and effectiveness of the branch.   The committee of trustees meets six times a year to discuss the operational matters, decide on the direction and communicate this to the branch manager for implementation.

There are a few smaller committees and working parties that focus on specific matters, such as fundraising or the charity shops,  and report back with recommendations to the full board of trustees. In addition, there are five trustees who hold the officer roles of Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Deputy Treasurer and Secretary.   We manage a turnover of around £1.8m and receive and care for around 800 animals every year.

Trustee skills

Currently we number eight trustees but we can recruit up to 14 elected trustees with a further 3 co-options.   Trustees are elected at AGM (usually in June) and anyone who joins us during the year would be by co-option.  We attempt to balance the skill set of our trustees and the following are the skills we would ideally like to recruit – it is by no means exhaustive though and we will be happy to hear from anyone who feels they have qualifications or experience drawn from working life that would compliment our board:

Project management; people management and communication; legal – particularly in contracts or HR legislation; financial, accountancy and/or audit; business management and development; strategic planning; administration; retail management; fundraising and income generation.

Please note that we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and with all different life experiences and knowledge
