Vets have recently seen an increase in the number of dogs with vomiting and diarrhoea in
certain regions of the UK, starting in Yorkshire. It’s not unusual to see seasonal spikes of
gastrointestinal disease in dogs and these appear to peak during the winter months, most
often in January each year. An infectious viral cause is often suspected but is infrequently
confirmed. So far this year in the majority of cases the disease has been mild, but in a small
number of dogs it has been severe. A good source of information about the current vomiting
and diarrhoea cases can be found on the SAVSNET website.
If anyone is concerned about their own dog or a dog in care, we would recommend they contact their vet for advice and
any necessary treatment.
